- Description of event
Legshe Thupkey was a Tibetan monk from Nalanda Monastery and one of the five monks involved in political activities in 1995. Along with Sonam Dhondup, Tseten, and others, he participated in distributing booklets about Tibet and supporting the Tibetan national flag in Thang township.
Their plans were exposed after a Chinese officer overheard their discussion, leading to a confrontation and intervention by authorities. The next day, officials searched their residence and found the booklets and the flag.
Legshe Thupkey was arrested with the group and taken to Gutsa Detention Centre. He was later sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for his involvement in these activities.
