- Description of event
In 2023, a Tibetan monk Tenzin Khenrab, 29, well known by his pen name, Dhong Rangchak was forcefully arrested by Chinese authorities for possessing a photo of Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on his phone and several e-books of the revered Buddhist Lama. He continues to be held incommunicado since his arrest last year and his whereabouts and health status remain unknown. Chinese authorities have reportedly blocked access to his social media accounts. His only family member, a 53-year-old mother, Phude, has seen her health decline due to the lack of access to information about her son.
The e-books he possessed include materials published by Tibetan exiles, including those from monasteries, strictly prohibited by the Chinese authorities in Tibet. Belongs to Lithang Monastery
- Details of Violations Faced in Detention
Phudé had gone for over a year without any information about her 29-year-old son, Tenzin Khenrab, following his arrest. Phudé's declining health is directly linked to her concern for her son, who has been held incommunicado for more than a year.
The mother of a Tibetan writer and political detainee passed away on 17 February 2024, at the age of 53 as her depression worsened.
Torture unknown.
