Dawa was detained along with 19 other Tibetans following a protest in Sershul county ; Kardze TAP ; Sichuan province on August 28 ; 2009. Based on information provided by a Tibetan monk living in exile ; the Voice of Tibet radio service reported that on the eve of the opening of a new hall at Tashi Gephel ling monastery in Zakay township ; Sershul county ; Kartdze TAP ; a group of Tibetans removed a Chinese national flag ; wrote pro-Tibetan slogans on it after tearing it into pieces ; and replaced it with the Tibetan national flag. The next day ; August 28 ; 2009 ; the same source told Voice of Tibet that approximatley 1000 Tibetans gathered for the opening of the prayer hall ; at which point some of those who gathered started singing songs in praise of the Dalai Lama.
