On 25 October 2023, Samphel was called to the police station in Gidhong township, Sakya County, Shigatse City, Tibetan Autonomous Region. Upon his arrival, his mobile phone was confiscated and subjected to a search. Subsequently, the police proceeded to question him on various matters, including an alleged accusation of initiating a Buddhist Group on a social media platform. He was taken by Local police to the Shigatse police station, and since then his current whereabouts remain unknown.

A source with reliable information informed, stating, "I've heard that Samphel established a Buddhist Group without proper registration, as per China's Internet regulations." However, whether Samphel indeed initiated the Buddhist group remains unclear.
The source further explained, "There was an existing Buddhist Group that engaged in charitable activities such as feeding street dogs and offering food to free-roaming animals on auspicious days, like the 15th day of the month. Additionally, the group members shared teachings from renowned religious teachers with one another."
