- Description of event
Khedrup (45), a monk of Ngaba Tsenyi Monastery from Garsam Township, Kango County, was detained in connection with a crackdown on alleged pro-independence activities in Ngaba County. Reports indicate that in August and November 2000 he was involved in the distribution of pro-independence leaflets in the region.
In March 2001, officials from the Ngaba County and Kango County Public Security Bureaus conducted a raid on his living quarters. During the search, authorities reportedly confiscated documents and wooden objects said to contain “splittist” content. Following the raid, Khedrup was arrested and transferred to the County Detention Centre.
Three other monks from Ngaba Tsenyi Monastery were also detained in relation to the same case: Jinpa (30) and Jigme (33), both from Garsam Township, Kango County, and Kelsang (40) from Tsenyi Township, Ngaba County, Sichuan Province.
