Jampa formerly served as Deputy Director of the Administration of Degen Gaisang Pozhang, the residence of the Panchen Lama in Xigaze.

On 21 April, the Intermediate People’s Court of Xigaze Prefecture convicted him of conspiring to split the country and leaking state secrets. The court held that he had colluded with separatist forces abroad and determined that his actions endangered national unity and stability in Tibet.

He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and deprived of political rights for two years. The court stated that, taking into account the circumstances of the case, a reduced penalty was applied on the charge of conspiring to split the country.

The trial was conducted in camera due to the involvement of state secrets. Jampa declined legal representation and defended himself during the proceedings. He accepted the verdict and waived his right to appeal. The judgment came into effect on 5 May.
