- Description of event
Tseten (b. 1968) was a Tibetan monk and close associate of Sonam Dhondup. In early 1995, he became involved in political activities alongside Sonam, including printing a booklet about Tibet and helping to create and preserve a Tibetan national flag.
Shortly afterward, Tseten joined Sonam and three other monks in distributing these materials in a nearby township called Thang. During their attempt, their discussion was overheard by a Chinese officer, which led to confrontation. A fight broke out, and the authorities were alerted. The following day, officials searched their residence, discovering the political materials and the Tibetan flag.
As a result, Tseten was arrested along with the other monks and taken to Gutsa Detention Centre. He was subsequently sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment for his involvement in these activities.
