- Description of event
Lobsang Lungtok, also known as Lobsang Tenzin, aged 31, is a monk of Gaden Monastery. He was detained on 20 March 1992 and subsequently sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for his participation in a demonstration in Lhasa.
In May 1998, while in detention at Drapchi Prison, Mr. Lungtok was accused of involvement in a prison protest. As a result, his sentence was extended by an additional 18 months. His total term of imprisonment was thereby increased to eight and a half years.
He remains imprisoned in connection with his peaceful political activities, raising serious concerns regarding the violation of his rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and due process.
