Description of event

Ngawang Sangpo, aged 31 and originally from Meldro Gongkar, was a monk at Drepung Monastery. He was arrested on 5 September 1996 for engaging in pro-independence activities and was subsequently sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Chinese authorities.
