On 2 March 2023, local police detained Yangtso, 23, from Gyatso Township, Namling (Ch: Nanmulin) County, Shigatse (Ch: Xigaze) City, Tibet Autonomous Region. The police detained her after checking her cell phone and seeing that she had contacted and sent photos to people outside the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Yangtso worked at the Snow Mountain Restaurant(Tib: གངས་རིའི་ཟ་ཁང་།) in Shigatse (Ch: Xigaze) City at the time of her detention.
She is currently being detained at the local police station of Namling County.

On 5 May 2024, Yangtso’s family received a call from the Chinese Authority and told them to bring her to the police station. They also told her to bring her mother and the Local headman. When they arrived at the Local police station, they made her sign that she would be responsible for anything that happened.
Although she has now been released, she is under house arrest and is not allowed to see anyone and her current health status remains unknown.
