- Description of event
Tsering Dolma, also known by her religious name Gyaltsen Tenzin, was born in 1968 in Chamdo Paiwar and was a nun of Chosang Monastery belonging to the Gelugpa sect. She was arrested on 8 March by the Chinese authorities and detained for 79 days before being imprisoned in Gutsa Prison. Following her arrest, her family members were denied all visitation rights.
During her detention in Gutsa Prison, she was reportedly stripped naked, bound, and subjected to severe torture, including beatings with electric batons and bamboo sticks. The abuse was allegedly carried out by Tibetan prison personnel identified as Sonam Tsering and Chungdak. After her release, she required repeated hospital treatment due to the injuries sustained in custody and continues to suffer chronic physical pain as a consequence of the torture.
