Description of event

Gyaltsen (born 1974) and Nyima Tsering (born 1974),both monks from Dragyab Bugon Monastery in Drayab County, were arrested in April 1997 and initially taken to Chamdo before being transferred to Lhasa. They were charged with pasting pro-independence posters and, in March 1998, were each sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. Both are reportedly detained in Drapchi Prison.
