- Description of event
Tamdin Jamyang, a 22-year-old monk from Tashi Gomang Monastery in Amdo, participated in a peaceful protest in Lhasa on 2 February 1990. Fearing arrest and persecution by the Chinese authorities following the demonstration, he fled to his hometown on 10 May 1990 before escaping to exile in India. His case reflects the risks faced by Tibetan monks for participating in peaceful political expression.
