- Description of event
Jinpa (30), a monk of Ngaba Tsenyi Monastery from Garsam Township, Kango County, was the primary target of a crackdown related to pro-independence activities in Ngaba County. In August and November 2000, he was involved in the distribution of pro-independence leaflets in the area.
In March 2001, investigators from the Ngaba County and Kango County Public Security Bureaus raided Jinpa’s living quarters. During the search, authorities reportedly seized documents and wooden objects alleged to contain “splittist” content. Jinpa was subsequently arrested and taken to the County Detention Centre.
Three other monks of Ngaba Tsenyi Monastery were detained in connection with the same case: Jigme (33) and Khedrup (45), both from Garsam Township, Kango County, and Kelsang (40) from Tsenyi Township, Ngaba County, Sichuan Province (TAR).
