- Description of event
Pasang Tsering, a 27-year-old monk from Nechung Monastery, previously attempted to flee to India but was apprehended by Chinese authorities. He was arrested, later released, and subsequently barred from returning to his monastery. On 5 March 1988, he participated in a peaceful demonstration in Lhasa and was arrested again in connection with his involvement in the protest. His detention appears to have been linked to the peaceful exercise of his rights to freedom of expression and assembly.
