- Description of event
Tenzin Norbu, born in 1969, was a monk at Gaden Monastery when he was arrested on 18 July 1995 in Lhasa alongside fellow monk Chokdrup for participating in a peaceful demonstration. Although they chanted pro-independence slogans, they did not display the Tibetan national flag or political posters. Tenzin was sentenced to six years' imprisonment and incarcerated in Drapchi Prison. Reports indicate that he suffered severe torture in custody, leaving him in poor health after his transfer to the prison.
