- Description of event
Migmar, a monk from Nalanda Monastery in Phenpo Lhundrup County, was arrested during the Chinese government’s crackdown on the monastery in early 1995. The crackdown followed a series of pro-independence activities carried out by monks, including the display of the Tibetan national flag and dissemination of political messages.
He was detained along with other monks on accusations of engaging in “counter-revolutionary” activities. His arrest formed part of a broader effort by authorities to suppress political expression and enforce “re-education” measures within the monastery.
Following his detention, Migmar was subjected to legal proceedings and imprisonment.
