Description of event

Police detained Lobsang Gedhun (age 48) ; a former disciplinarian at one of Kirti’s religious colleges ; in mid-October ; and Gyatso ; a former teacher at Kirti ; on November 21. Gyatso had written “compositions” that appeared in local magazines and newspapers. The report implied that both detentions were part of a series of detentions of Kirti monks concurrent with a political and security crackdown at the monastery following the March 2011 self-immolation of a Kirti monk.
