Rachung Gendun and Sonam Gyatso, from Kirti monastery, Ngaba County were sentenced to three years and two years in November 2022 respectively, for sending donations to Tibet’s foremost spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and Kirti Rinpoche, both living in exile. Belongs to Kirti Monastery

After being held captive by the Chinese government for more than two years, Geshe Sonam Gyatso was released on  23 May 2023 after serving his sentence. Due to the severe torture and forced labour he endured, his condition deteriorated, and he is now extremely thin and frail. He returned to the Kirti monastery on 25 May.
