- Description of event
Pasang, born in 1973, was a monk of Jang Taglung Monastery in Lhundrup County. In November 1993, he and three other monks from the same monastery staged a peaceful demonstration in Lhasa, during which they carried the Tibetan National Flag and called for Tibet’s independence. The four monks circumambulated the Barkhor district of Lhasa City as part of their protest. During their third round, they were arrested by local police and handed over to the Lhasa City Public Security Bureau.
Pasang received a sentence of eleven years’ imprisonment. The details of the sentences given to the other three monks—Phurbu (born 1963), Lobsang Tsondrue (born 1965), and Buchung (born 1973)—are not known.
