- Description of event
Damchoe Drolma (born 1973) is a nun of Shar Bhumpa Nunnery, originally from Phenpo Lhundrup County. She was arrested on 25 February 1995 after taking part in a demonstration in the Barkhor district of Lhasa City.
Her arrest occurred amid a broader crackdown linked to so-called “re-education” campaigns imposed on Tibetan monasteries and nunneries, which triggered widespread protests across Lhasa from 1995 onward. As a result of her participation, Damchoe Drolma was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment, along with an additional three-year deprivation of political rights.
