Description of event

Lokud, aged 23, is a monk from Drepung Monastery. He was first detained in 1997 following his arrest by a government “work team” and subsequently sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. In 1998, his sentence was extended by an additional four years as punishment for his alleged participation in the May 1 protest, bringing his total term of imprisonment to nine years.
