Description of event

Tenzin Dhakpa, a 26-year-old resident of Yartse Village in Karze County, was arrested on 3 November 1999 for participating in a pro-independence demonstration held in Karze on 26 October 1999. He was subsequently sentenced to four years' imprisonment and detained in Xinduqiao Prison. During his detention, he was reportedly subjected to brutal torture and repeated interrogations because of his involvement in the protest.
