- Description of event
Kushok Sigpa, another monk from the Reting monastery, was arrested in connection with the anti-Chinese political activities reported at Reting Monastery during 1995–1996. Authorities accused him of involvement in distributing political posters and resisting the patriotic re-education campaign enforced inside the monastery.
He was detained on 22 November 1996 together with several fellow monks and taken to Gutsa Detention Centre, where interrogations were conducted before sentencing. He later received a two-year prison sentence and was reportedly transferred to Drapchi Prison.
