Kunsang Choekyi, a 26-year-old nun from Shungsep Nunnery, died in October 1992, approximately one month after her release from Trisam Re-education Through Labour Camp. She had been previously detained in the camp as part of the authorities’ re-education programme.

No official information regarding the circumstances of her death was released by the Chinese government. Her death occurred shortly after her release from detention.
