- Description of event
Jamyang (b. 1963) was a Tibetan monk from Meldro Gongkar who took part in a peaceful demonstration on 20 March 1992 near the Tsuklhakhang Temple in Lhasa. The protest, involving around 250 participants, called for Tibetan independence and included the display of the Tibetan national flag.
Following the crackdown by Chinese police, Jamyang was arrested along with other monks from Gaden Monastery. While several co-detainees received known prison sentences, the exact length of Jamyang’s sentence remains unknown.
