- Description of event
Tashi Nyima was born in 1976 in Karze. In September 1999, he was arrested by the Chinese authorities for allegedly distributing “Free Tibet” posters advocating Tibetan independence and political freedom. His detention formed part of the broader crackdown on peaceful political expression and pro-Tibetan activism in Tibetan regions under Chinese administration.
Following his arrest, Tashi Nyima was held at the Kardze Detention Centre, where political detainees were frequently subjected to harsh interrogation and restrictive detention conditions. His case reflects the continued suppression of Tibetan political activism and freedom of expression during the late 1990s.
