- Description of event
Dolkar was the founder of Ramoche Tsasur School, an institution dedicated to the social reintegration of former political prisoners, particularly monks and nuns. The school served approximately 250 students between the ages of six and thirty.
Despite its educational and rehabilitative mission, the school was forcibly closed and subsequently destroyed by the Chinese authorities under the pretext of urban renovation of the Ramoche area. Dolkar’s efforts to raise funds for the school were closely monitored and scrutinized by the authorities. Although she possessed a valid Swiss visa, she was prevented from leaving the country. In an apparent attempt to intimidate her, her husband was detained and sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment.
