- Description of event
Dechen Namdol, a nun from Nyimo County based at Theckchokling Nunnery, was detained in the early 1990s after openly resisting Chinese-imposed ideological re-education and restrictive regulations in nunneries. She challenged forced “patriotic education,” opposed the expulsion of underage nuns, and spoke out against state interference in religious life. Her detention was part of a broader campaign of religious repression against Tibetan Buddhist institutions during the 1990s.
