Yeshi Pema, born in 1973 and a native of Phenpo Lhundrup County, was one of the five nuns from Chubsang Nunnery arrested for participating in a pro-independence protest in the Barkhor area of Lhasa on 2 February 1995. She was initially detained at Gutsa Detention Centre and later transferred to Drapchi Prison on 30 July 1995.
In June 1995, the Lhasa Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Yeshi Pema to six years’ imprisonment. After serving four years of her sentence, she was released early on the grounds of “good behaviour.”
