- Description of event
Jigme Dolma, a nun of Shugseb Nunnery, participated in a protest held in Lhasa on 5 December 1989. Following the demonstration, she changed her clothes and managed to escape arrest.
Due to repeated harassment and intimidation by Chinese officials at the monastic institution, Jigme Dolma and approximately forty-four other nuns staged a collective protest. As a result, they were expelled from the nunnery in 1990. Facing continued persecution, Jigme Dolma fled Tibet and reached exile in India on 30 December 1991.
